DR. PABITRA MOHAN SAMANTARAY
 
A genius of myriad talents Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samantaray was born to an Odia peasant family of the Kshetrapal Village of Jajpur District in the State of Odisha on 3rd May 1969. Kshetrapal, a small village near Chandikhole and the famous Maha Vinayak Temple and twenty kms from the famous Buddhist shrines of Lalitgiri and Udayagiri is today swollen with pride for the mission Pabitra has accomplished in his socio-academic and political life.

Since the childhood, Pabitra Mohan Samantaray had developed a non-attachment to the present materialistic world. Either to be a Social Worker or a Sanyasi was the ambition of his life. He had a great allure towards Vedic scriptures. After graduation in Science, he obtained Master’s degree in Life Science from the Sambalpur University of Odisha. Later, he did his Bachelor of Law from the prestigious Utkal University. With a sound academic career, Dr. Samantaray could have opted for a lucrative job. But his terrific fascination towards the Vedas, and even to Sanskrit language compelled him to search for an institution where he could pursue Vedic literature. At this juncture, he found asylum with world famous His Holiness

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Under the personal guidance of the Yogi, he excelled as a teacher in Transcendental Meditation, T.M. Sidhi Programme, Advance Technic (A.T) and Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI). Later, a Doctor’s Degree was bestowed upon his from Maharishi University of Management (MUM), Holland and Doctor of Science of Creative Intelligence from Maharishi European Research University (MERU), Switzerland was another milestone in his academic journey. His Holiness Maharishi had chosen him to preach his teachings in India and abroad. With this mission, he had toured the entire Asia, Europe and America, Back at home, he tiredlessly worked in the field of socio-educational and spiritual uplift of the common mass. He travelled extensively throughout the country and organized a number of institutions in almost every State and Union Territory.

In order to work for the people of his own State, Dr. Samantaray decided to settle in Odisha. He started his spiritual preachings, and social and educational activities from the Jagannath Dham Puri where he worked as the State Chief, Maharishi Global Administration. It is due to his efforts that each of the thirty districts of the State was having Ved Vigyan Bhawan, Vedic Pathasala and Vidya Mandir, where the importance of Transcendental Meditation and Vedic Science was taught and practiced. Groups of Vedic Pundits were trained to perform Vedic rituals in the households in every village of Odisha. Following Maharishi’s philosophy of education for enlightenment and integral development of child’s personality, Dr. Samantaray facilitated the opening of Maharishi Public School Group in Odisha, the headquarters being Bhubaneswar and branches in different parts of the State.

Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samantaray surpassed others in the field of leadership. He has left an indelible imprint to the Students’ Politics of the State. As a good organizer, he had arranged a good number of study tours and conducted a number of cultural programmes during his student days. As a book lover, he has developed a library of his own in his native village. It has been giving immense benefit to the needy students. Helping the poor, deprived and the downtrodden sections has always been the mission of his life. Besides helping the poor and gifted children in their studies, he has helped many poor young persons to be self dependant. Through his patronage to a number of your Clubs in the Barachana-Dharmasala area, he has not only developed a sense of we feeling, but also nurtured the inevitable social values amongst He has played a vital role in de-addiction movement in that region of the State. He has been working for the differently able level children inorder to bring them into the mainstream and also sphere heading the voluntary blood donation programme in the State. As a voracious orator, his speech to the common masses as well as to the students’ community has very often

gripped the attention of the press. As the President, Chairman, Chief Advisor, Advisor and even life member of different socio-cultural organizations, Dr. Samantaray has developed a close rapport with many dignitaries and political features of the state and nation. He has got the chance of addressing the gatherings from the platforms where top dignitaries of the world have delivered their speeches.

The Super cyclone of 1999, which wrought havoc in 14 coastal districts of the State did not spare Jajpur. The loss of life, although was minimal in comparison to other districts, damage caused to public and private property was incalculable. It brought about a new challenge for Dr. Samantaray and his team to rehabilitate the hapless cyclone victims of Barachana. Besides the rescue and relief operations, his team had performed a phenomenal role in rehabilitation process negotiation with government and nongovernment organizations was made, necessities of the stake holders were chalked out and trauma counseling was given to the affected. People of Coastal Odisha have not forgotten the relief camp organized by him in different areas. The Trauma counseling centre in some villages is a mute witness to the Herculean task that Dr. Samantaray had accomplished during the Super Cyclone. Likewise, his help at personal as well as organizational levels to the victims of the flood of 2001 and onwards was significant.

The profile will be incomplete in the absence of a list of organizations, both political and non-political where Dr. Samantaray has associated himself in different capacities. A number of organization has accepted Dr. Samantaray as their Chief Advisor / Advisor, A few of them are, Ashraya, Sarankul, Nayagarh, all India Blood Donors and Motivator Association, Bhubaneswar, Sahara International, Janaseva Parishad, Kendrapara, Rajiv Gandhi Student Forum, Bhubaneswar, Kartika Purnima Bhajan Samaroha, Puri; Paribesha Surakshya Samiti, Maharishi Club of different parts of Odisha & India, National School of Acting & Photography, National Journalist Welfare Board and Kalamanch, Bhubaneswar.

The organizations which are headed by him are National News Service, New Delhi, moodisha.org, International Academy of Indian Studies, Vedic International Foundation, Maharishi International Gyan Foundation and Chetana.

Besides these, Dr. Samantaray is the Chairman of Maharishi Public School Group, Maharishi Vedic School Group, Kalinga Ved Vigyan Vidyapeetham, Mo Odisha Mu Odia. Last but not the least, Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samantaray is presently the Editor-in-Chief of the different journals, periodicals, news portals and video portals like Gyanyuga, Maharishi Barta, moodisha.net, dailyodisha.com, dainikaodisha.net, odishalivenews.com and Odia daily “Paryabekhyak” and English daily “The Kalinga Chronicle”.






Political Activities:

Dr. Samantaray entered into politics through an All India registered unrecognized Political party called Ajeya Bharat Party. He was the State Convenor of the Party for the period from 1998 to 2000. The party was formed with the pure and pious intention to establish life in happiness, peace, prosperity, equality, health, invincibility and wholeness for all time to come. It envisaged a conflict free politics and problem free administration. The party has fielded 8 candidates in the General Election 1997-1998. Although the party’s performance in this Election was dismal, it fared well in the General Election 1999 where 8 candidates were given tickets. Nevertheless, its performance in the Assembly Election of Odisha 2000 was significant in the politics of the State.

Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samantaray visits his village and the Assembly Constitutency i.e., Barachana at regular intervals. By now, he has become a part and parcel of the life of the people of that region. He has started a Grievance cell of his own with a tream of dedicated social workers to redress the grievance of the common people. Every socio-culturalk programme, be it a wedding, birthday celebration or even a cremation, and condolence meeting Pabitra’s presence is a must. This quality has made him closer to the people.

In 2009 he joined Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of the then Prime Ministerial Candidate veteran politician Sri L.K.Advaniji and fought the general election from 50, Barachana Assembly Constituency of 11th SC Jajpur parliament constituency. Since then he has been sincerely and seriously involved in socio political and developmental activities of his home constituency. During the recent October 12-13th 2013, Cyclone (Philine) and Flood and incessant time he extensible toured his constituencies, helped the affected people and met the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Mr. Surya Narayan Patro, submitted a memorandum to Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Naveen Pattnaik Ji through him. Minister, Mr. Patro ordered the District Magistrate of Jajpur to provide immediate relief assistance to all the people of the constituency. Then regarding agricultural loss assessment, loan free, free distribution of seeds to farmers and filling of vacancies of Veterinary Doctors and Live Stock Inspectors and providing cattle feeds etc. he met the Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Urban Development Minister Sri Devi Prasad Mishra and submitted a memorandum and requesting him to urgently act upon. Meeting Ministers and Officials of different departments to help serving various problems and difficulties the people of Barachana have become a habit in his daily routine.
